The thin Scandi-style legs are just long enough that you can stuff some storage bins under there where the dust bunnies live, and the polyester fabric is low-absorption, so if you get a little too wild with your red wine or coffee, there’s still time to make a dash for some paper towels before it’s fully seeped in. “I love that Article manages to keep its designs stylish without being fussy or overpriced,” says senior digital editor Zoë Sessums, in her full review. “The cushions are supportive but still plush, with no sagging even after hours of use. FAQs

How much should a decent couch cost?

As you can tell from the above list, this varies. However, you can expect to set back at least 1k for a good quality sofa, with elevated options beginning at $1,500. In the long run, this will save you the hell of buying $500 couch after $500 couch as you find them falling apart due to poor quality, shotty materials, and adhesives like glue or staples instead of proper joinery. The most important thing when seeking something price-friendly is to consider material.

Where to buy a reasonably priced good quality sofa?

We’ve been really impressed with some of Wayfair’s couches though we always recommend reading the fine print and material makeup as their catalog is broad enough to include a few less-than-fabulous options without proper research. Interior Define makes some of our favorite affordable sofas with high quality materials and modern, attractive designs. West Elm and Crate & Barrel are also old faithfuls for reasonably-priced long-term furniture pieces.

What shouldn’t I skimp on when buying an affordable couch?

Quality—by which we mean look for good foundation materials. That means actual wood—not particle board. Softwoods are typically less reliable for a strong foundational structure, like butternut, spruce, or fir. If you can, find couches with bases of ash, oak, or walnut. Engineered wood may sound suspicious, but this is actually a cost-effective way to create sturdy and durable wood product. You’ll also want to look for strong weaves and cushions, so avoid polyester fiberfill and low-density foam where possible, as they fall apart more easily (plus have negative environmental impact!).
