Better Than Foam: Fluid-Filled Earplugs for a Perfect Fit

Foam earplugs are a cheap solution for hearing protection, but they can become itchy and uncomfortable. A startup called Paxauris has developed something they reckon is better: Fluid Earplugs. They’re made of medical-grade silicone and, as the name suggests, are filled with fluid.

You insert the earplugs, then press on a plunger. This sends the glycerin within into the bulb at the end, which then perfectly plugs your ear canal.

Removal is similarly easy.

The company says the silicone is far more comfortable for longer wearing sessions than foam.

Another potential target market is swimmers and surfers seeking to protect themselves from Swimmer’s Ear. The Fluid Earplugs are, of course, waterproof.

The company says they’re launching the product “soon,” but at press time hadn’t announced a release date nor pricing.
