BIG and HNTB have broken ground on the A’s Ballpark in Las Vegas. Set to open ahead of the 2028 Major League Baseball season, the venue will feature a large cable-net glass wall framing views of The Strip.

As we reported in March, the 33,000-capacity ballpark is designed with a roof of five overlapping shells inspired by baseball pennants. The arched “pennants” alleviate direct sunlight glare and allow indirect natural light into the stadium. Meanwhile, the cable-net glass wall is designed to lend the stadium an open, outdoor atmosphere.

An elevated outdoor plaza connects to bridges over Las Vegas and Tropicana Boulevards, directing fans to the main concourse where a large glass atrium “draws the life of the city inside.” The entrance sequence was designed to allow for views of the entire park on entering, aiding wayfinding and circulation.

“This groundbreaking is a great milestone for our almost decade-long collaboration with the A’s,” Ingels said. “It marks the end of a long journey to find the new home for the A’s, and on a personal note, the groundbreaking of our first baseball stadium. The A’s Armadillo is unlike any other ballpark, and will not only be a great home for the team and the sport, but also a striking new architectural character in the string of pearls along the Las Vegas Strip.”
