Why the IKEA BERGVATTNET Collection Matters for Your Home
Imagine opening your pantry to find it overflowing, only to realize that almost everything inside is spoiled or off-limits.
That’s the reality of our planet’s water supply: abundant at first glance, but only a fraction is safe and usable. A mere 0.5% of the freshwater is available to humans, and most of it, unfortunately, is contaminated.
With water scarcity becoming one of the defining challenges of our time, design-forward brands are stepping up in unexpected ways.
A Global Crisis Meets Scandinavian Design
IKEA unveiled its BERGVATTNET collection during World Water Week 2025. The new line seeks to blend Scandinavian style with smart, sustainable solutions for everyday living.
From cleverly designed kitchen essentials to bathroom upgrades that save both water and space, the collection proves that eco-conscious design doesn’t mean compromising on aesthetics.
The BERGVATTNET Collection: Supporting IKEA’s Water Agenda
Innovative water-efficient products are a critical component when it comes to IKEA’s water agenda. The agenda focuses on reducing freshwater use and improving water quality by developing affordable products that encourage people to adopt eco-friendly behaviors.
Designers decided to create a line of bathroom products that would help users be more conscious of how they use water. BERGVATTNET takes water efficiency to a whole new level.
Specifically, it focuses on showering, since it’s typically the biggest chunk of a household’s water usage.
According to Yi Ding, Range Area Manager Bathroom & Water, IKEA of Sweden AB, “People are becoming more conscious about their water usage at home, but this remains sometimes an overwhelming and challenging task in their busy everyday life. What they need are easy, accessible and affordable solutions. That is why we created BERGVATTNET; a collection of smart products that inspire and enable as many people as possible to use water efficiently at home.”
Water Meter for the Shower

The purpose of the water meter is to help increase people’s awareness of how much water they’re using. The idea is that when someone is more aware of their water consumption, they’ll use less, so the meter aims to encourage shorter showers.
IKEA even offers a fun suggestion to promote conscious water use — a bit of friendly competition to see who can use water most efficiently.

As Tobias Svanberg, Innovation Developer, IKEA of Sweden AB, explains, “The BERGVATTNET digital meter measures the temperature of the water, water consumption, and how long you are using the shower for.”
The meter features a two-minute memory for when you need to pause the water flow during a shower. It also connects to most shower mixers, making it simple to install for most users.

BERGVATTNET Bucket

The BERGVATTNET collection bucket is a water-saving powerhouse. It has a bunch of uses that help you maximize water usage. Keep it in the corner of your shower and let it collect excess water instead of letting the water just run down the drain.
It also has a super handy removable shelf that provides an extra surface for stowing shower accessories. The holes in the bottom of the shelf allow water to drain into the bucket.

The bucket holds up to 8 liters and features a sturdy handle and spout, making it easy to lift and pour. Use collected water to flush toilets, water plants, and perform other tasks.

The bucket works with a hand shower, or one of the coolest things is how it works with the line’s auto-diverter.
Auto Diverter for Shower

Waiting for the water to heat up usually means a lot of cold water goes down the drain, but not with the shower auto diverter. You connect the diverter to your shower head, and collect the cold water in the bucket instead.

Once the water temperature reaches 32°C (89.6°F), it automatically diverts the water to the shower head.
Booster for Hand Shower

When you need a quick rinse, the hand shower booster gives you a brief increase in water flow with just the push of a button. Afterward, the water returns to its typical low flow to limit usage.
Wash Basin Mixer Tap

The mixer tap makes it easier to limit hot water use. When you lift the lever straight up, it only releases cold water. The tap also has a built-in pressure-compensating aerator to maintain efficient water flow.
Stylish Accessories for the Bathroom

Being more aware of how much water you use and doing your part to improve the planet is so much easier when products are aesthetically pleasing. Therefore, the BERGVATTNET line includes stylish accessories to brighten up your bathroom.
The shower curtain and bath towel give your bathroom a boost with their bold blue and white pattern. The blue ties in with the vivid color of the soft, drop-shaped bath mat. Finally, the carafe and pretty matching glasses reflect light, add a dash of sparkle, and provide the perfect way to sip some mint-infused water.
BERGVATTNET Makes Your Bathroom and the Planet a Better Place

Many of IKEA’s shower heads, taps, and similar products feature water-conserving qualities. The new BERGVATTNET collection joins the team with a bright, cheerful color scheme that focuses on providing affordable ways for people to improve water efficiency in their homes.

The series shows that making the planet a better place doesn’t have to be boring, expensive, or complicated. Quite the contrary, it’s all about making eco-friendly efforts more accessible and, of course, good-looking, too.

Look for the BERGVATTNET collection at IKEA stores globally and online starting August 2025.
