When Marlena Schubert’s little girl asked for a dressing table, she jumped into action. The creative mom responded with a super-easy DIY kids vanity.
After all, why go out and buy a kids dressing table when you can make one instead (especially when you can do it for under $100)?
After strolling through IKEA, Marlena decided on the ELLOVEN monitor riser as the springboard for her project. The rest all seemed to fall into place — with glue. You read that right. No screwgun or drill needed.
It’s a precious piece, offering storage and a fun place for little ones to pamper and prep for their most fabulous adventures.
So if your little princess pops up and asks for her very own beauty bar, here’s a simple way to give her what she wants.
This Sweet Vanity for Kids Is So Easy to Make
What You’ll Need
- 1 IKEA ELLOVEN monitor stand
- 1 IKEA PRUNKHALLON mirror
- MDF panel (46.8 cm x 25.4 cm)
- 4 Furniture legs
- Heavy-duty adhesive
1. Add the MDF on the Bottom
Glue the MDF board in place on the bottom of the monitor stand. To make things super easy, get the panel cut to size at the hardware store. You don’t need to get a super-thick piece, just make sure it’s sturdy. The bonus of adding the board is that it doubles as a shelf!
2. Attach the Legs
Marlena opted for 40cm (approx 16″) tall tapered furniture legs to make the vanity the perfect height for her daughter. You could go with slightly shorter or taller, depending on the size you’re going for.
If you have a stool or chair in mind for the dressing area, use it as a guideline for choosing the best height for your legs. Attach a leg to each corner of the MDF board using a heavy-duty adhesive.
3. Finish It Off With a Mirror
The finishing touch of this kid’s dressing table is the adorable pink PRUNKHALLON mirror. Marlena glued it to the back of the monitor stand. Now, all that’s left to do is fill the drawer and shelf with fun accessories!
Price for this IKEA hack for kids: $90 to $95
- Monitor stand: $29.99
- Mirror: $19.99
- Legs: $25 to $30 (on Amazon)
- MDF/supplies: $15
Creative Ways to Customize Your Kids Vanity Table
Every IKEA hack has plenty of possibilities to tweak, alter, expand, and revamp, and this children’s vanity is no exception.
Here are just a few ways you could alter the design without adding overly complicated steps or excessive costs.
- Put shelf paper on the top of the monitor stand to add some color or pattern to match your kids room decor
- Choose a different style of furniture legs.
- Hang the mirror on the wall and place the vanity below it.
- Add hooks to the bottom to hang headbands, necklaces, and other items.
