This is an excerpt from ESPNcricinfo's 2016 article The Surfer: Harsha Bhogle's ouster part of a larger problem, which discusses the unceremonious removal of Harsha Bhogle from the 2016 IPL commentary panel. I stumbled upon this article randomly and was pleasantly surprised by the strong language used to criticize the BCCI. As a publication that exclusively covers cricket, ESPNcricinfo rarely critiques the BCCI as an organization, which I often find disheartening. I understand why they avoid it now—they rely on access to Indian players to sustain their coverage, and BCCI can easily cut off that access. However, this article made me wonder whether ESPNcricinfo used to be more critical of the inner workings of cricket boards, and if so, when and how that changed.
